Here are a few tips to help you save on school shopping:
- Take inventory of what your child already has (and maybe never used from previous years). Chances are, the items on the supply list may have been purchased by you last year!
- Make a budget. Set a certain amount aside that won't get you into debt.
- Try to shop in one spot. Walmart is always a great source for inexpensive, name-brand items. What's more...if you're trying to find the cheapest price, you can get a guarantee from Walmart. If you make a purchase there and find it cheaper somewhere else, go to Walmart.com and enter an ID code listed on the in-store receipt. You can get a gift card rebate if the company's prices were more expensive than advertised prices at competitors.
- Take advantage of tax holidays. Stay focused....the savings are for your kids - not a new black dress!
- Keep your receipts! You may be able to deduct some expenses on your 2014 income taxes.
